In reply to the discussion: Chris Cuomo: It's not unfair to point out Fetterman's speech difficulties [View all]karynnj
(61,022 posts)After the shame his brother, and to a lesser extent, he brought to the Democratic party, it would have shown genuine work on his own issues if he recognized that in addition to values voters agree with, sufficient intelligence to lead a staff and work on legislative issues, the biggest issue is character, integrity and empathy.
Instead, Cuomo values something he and his brother clearly have, the ability to speak very well. That is a good skill for either a news presenter or politician, but it is secondary. Where it exists, think President Obama, it is a major plus, but note that in 2020, Democrats did not choose the incredibly articulate Buttigieg, but Biden.
Similarly, he ignores the greatest weakness that he, his brother and Oz share, various examples of questionable moral character. With Oz, the worst is that as a doctor, he knowingly mislead people to buy snake oil remedies.
Fetterman was never a top debater, a person whose speeches sang with words that harmonized perfectly to create something inspiring and memorable. That was never his strength. From the doctors, the view is his auditory processing will get better. If it doesn't, as a non doctor, I would suggest that as on most things, as he deals with it, his skill in dealing with it will improve.
Now, as to Oz's weakness, there is no sign he even sees that flaw as a problem, meaning he has no reason to work to improve who he is. Even if he did, it is not that easy.
We could mention, that he seems less concerned with Walker, who has mental issues as we.l as speech problems. Not to mention severe character issues.
