(26,924 posts)I am 74, and I have no time for negativity.
Worry is its own reward.
I am an engineer by nature (physics degree) and my first real job was to work error budgets on space telescopes.
One has to be realistic, identify the major sources and deal with them. Focus efforts on the biggest reward for your effort. Don't waste time, energy and money on things that waste them and make no improvement (think: the 80/20 rule)
Worrying is like pushing on a rope.
Taking action is like pulling on a rope. Pull people towards you.

So when I say Be HOPEFUL, WISE and DETERMINED, that is borne out by pop psychology.
It means being realistic, using objective measures (because relying on faulty sources is danger, Will Robinson)
It means focusing on positive energy, because only that gets things done, and
It means not giving in to other people's opinions, which can steer you off course, sap your energy, and sometimes is done deliberately.
The repubs work by a bunch of D's
deny, delay, distort, deceive and distract
Being hopeful, wise and determined corresponds to three Buddhist principles:
Faith, Study and Practice.
In many ways (as cosmic physics is discovering) "With our thoughts, we make the world"
And since the repubs also are over the top in PROJECTION, think about projection.
Projection, in short, is taking your own faults and failures and projecting them on to someone else.
EVERYTHING THEY SAY IS PROJECTION

Every Accusation is a Confession
I choose to project my inner strength, compassion and goodness.
I am no Pollyanna. I expect things to fail because they do fail. If I have a tool belt ready, and spare fuses, thermocouples, light bulbs and such ready, it's not that I am paranoid (only a little), but it's because I want to feel confident that I can meet challenges as they arise, and not feel helpless. And I help others when I can.
I am not a psychologist, but many people say that taking action is often the best way to beat depression, because it's controlling what you can control and influencing those you can influence, and as I listen to sports talk (sometimes) I find it just amazing that people spend time, energy, and sometimes rage, over things over which they have ZERO influence.
Getting out the vote is something in which each of us agency,
If everyone called or emailed just one friend in their district, outside their district, or out of state, that could have an amazing effect.

OR BE KICKED!
