Seems media ad buyer buy a chunk at beginning of year & that provides the sites guaranteed income up front. With all the crap Elon is allowing on twitter now, a lot of high roller ad accounts are (reasonably) concerned about their ads being sandwiched between a lot of really rank, racist, antisemitic hate speech. Big companies don't want that sort of company and the buys for ads for coming year have tanked.

Maybe Musk figures if he loses money the way Trump has, maybe he'll be a popular guy among the low IQ magas too?
