That's when most the cases that come up in front of the court are ruled on - so, there wouldn't have been an option to rule earlier or later (see: the ACA, marriage equality, etc). Their term for the year ends in the summer and doesn't start up again until October - where they'll hear cases they'll rule on in ... June or July, 2023.
