In reply to the discussion: Katie Porter needs some positive vibes! [View all]Just A Box Of Rain
(5,104 posts)Katie Porter has represented CA 45, but much of her former district is now CA 47 (and that's the seat she is competing for now).
Both her old 45 and new 47 have a very significant Republican demographic of the "old-school" white Reagan-style Orange County voters plus a growing Asian population (that breaks both ways).
This area was solid Red historically. Not so-much MAGA-country, but wealthy and quite conservative.
It is an absolute tribute to Katie Porter that she's captured and held a seat in what's not really in friendly territory for Democrats, and the new district seems like it is even more challenging the her last.
My only concern about Porter making a Senate run (since she'd be great), is that I believe CA 47 would almost certainly flip to the GOP.
Her current opponent, Scott Baugh, is a low-grade candidate, where she is a super-star, yet the race is still very close. That's due to the unfavorable demographics.
