In reply to the discussion: Having reinstated Trump's account, Idiot Musk now thinks trolling him will bring him back UPDATE [View all]So many people are so gleeful about it ending because they were never on it, so they don't know what it really was. It was so funny, and fast-paced, and everyone was whip smart, at least the people I followed. And there was nothing better for getting on the ground, as it's happening, news from literally anywhere in the world. There was always someone who had an interesting article to share, or the results of a study that was eye-opening. And it has been instrumental for people in countries with repressive governments to communicate with each other and the rest of the world. We're losing something that was valuable.
And yes, of course, there have always been trolls and MAGAts and assholes, but depending on who you followed, a lot of that just never reached you. But not the last two weeks. It's like the floodgates have been opened. I'll be scrolling a thread, and suddenly, like flaming dog shit on your front porch, there will be some vile, take your breath away, piece of bigoted, or anti-Semitic, or transphobic garbage.
I deleted my account yesterday when Musk reinstated TFG, because I want him to see a tangible backlash to that decision. I hope I'm not the only one. But I'm sad. I'm sad that there are so many people that find pleasure in destroying something that other people like. Musk and the MAGAts never got any pleasure from Twitter because they didn't understand it, so instead they'll just smash it. They feel inferior so they destroy what you love to get an adrenaline rush from your hurt and disappointment.
I'll miss it. Even though it's still lurching forward, it's not the same as it was. It's meaner and stupider. Twitter is already dead. This is Truth Social Lite.
