They've been convinced that (1) they and their "culture" are superior and (2) it's under attack. Therefore they must fight to defend their privilege and "make America great again" - when "those people" knew their place.

It's a fight to the death, in their fearful little minds. They're convinced of this, all while they lead their entitled lives, complaining about censorship while they say anything they want.
