12. Why are we afraid to own the word?

It took literally decades for a lot of Democrats to embrace the term "liberal" after the word was totally demonized by the right. I have watched as the word has been rehabilittated to a large degree. Even though I understand some more conservative Democrats still do not wish to embrace that label.

And that de-fanging started with the first brave souls not afraid to call themselves liberals and be proud of it. Why shouldn't we be. The Latin root being "liber" meaning FREE. Free choice, free healthcare, free public education, free and fair democratic elections, etc..

I don't know what took us so long.

Now perhaps we didn't even invent the term "woke". Or it was some obscure abbreviation someone made that was immediately latched on by the propagandists of the right to be used as a slur. Much like "open borders", or "defund the police".

But fighting against the term is what Republicans WANT. Why not embrace the term. Throw it back in their faces like Leslieoo7 is doing. Think about it, why would you accept as an insult, someone telling you that you are more awake than they are about whats happening around them?

Don't look up. Don't get woke. Why don't we say, "thankyou and?...."
