This is the kind of crazy shit I keep reading on FB... [View all]

After a lengthy back and forth with a conservative nut, the conservative nut and I started to come together. We agreed that arguing hadn't really done either side much good and it was time to start working on compromise.

Then this old guy chimed in with this:

"There will be the inevitable period of Dems wallowing in self-impression, smug glee and imagined declarations of vindication. People just do that. Repubs did it after the Bush elections and the 2010 massacre. It’s nothing new. May they enjoy all their shallow partisan bigotry (like DAVE's anchor post above) with our blessing. Never mind attempting to reason with those drunk and surly on their fleeting intoxication - the drunk don't reason - let them get it out of their systems when they too will be forced to recognize and cope with where America actually is now. Their glee will fold fast enough when, also inevitably, it is gored on the horn of reality."

To which I responded:

"Where, exactly, is America now? Cause Dems picked up seats in both Houses, won the WH for a second time with an over 50% majority and pretty much every news anchor I have listened to this morning has said that the Tea Party is screwing the GOP by getting 'whackados' nominated.

So, if you are thinking that demographics are changing in this country and old white male farts like yourself are becoming marginalized, then yeah, we get it.

'Whackado' would be Steve Schmidt's phrase, BTW. The other term I heard bandied about was 'loons'."

That was one of the mildest exchanges I have had today. I thought my farrier and I were going to come to blows at one point.
