I had a supervisor once who had a saying that I learned to dread: "For this project, I'm going to have to clone you." That was her way of saying I was going to have to do twice as much work -- generally my job and someone else's at the same time.

I managed to last a year there by judicious application of the Peter Principle. Then I got the fuck out of the private sector and went back to academia.
