(22,645 posts)I've realized that I really don't mind googling the occasional abbreviation. What I do mind is googling a string of letters and not being able to pull up an answer. That gets on my nerves.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of examples of this in these replies. Some are meant as jokes, I think, but it's not always easy to tell. That makes it very unfunny to people like me who are just trying to follow a conversation.
My feeling is this: use abbreviations all you want (sorry, Atticus, these things are embedded in internet culture, and they're not going anywhere). Just please use REAL ones that someone like me can Google to find out they mean. Making stuff up may feel funny when you're doing it, but it's unkind to make people go search for things that don't exist, and when you're the one searching, it feels like a dirty trick (even though it may not have been meant that way).
