(11,246 posts)I'd also be interested to know what white culture is considered to be. I think anyone's answer to that would be very revealing of how they perceive the world.
And are there any other cultures that are predominantly offensive, or is it just the, uh, white one?
My partner's Filipino from a big family with mostly Filipino friends, so my house is kind of revolving door of Filipinos. My friends and social group is predominantly non-white. I don't think I could go up to any of them, glance at the bad traits among the ones I don't get along with, and feel comfortable holding forth on "The problem with Filipino culture is . . ."
At least not without coming across like a complete flaming asshole before I hit the second sentence of the thought.
It's possible to hate parts of culture. We all do. We talk about gun culture or evangelical culture or influencer culture. That's behavior. Criticize away.
Once you just decide, "Well that whole race sucks," uh, that's not good. And it really shouldn't be worn as a badge. It's certainly signalling something, but not what one thinks.
