In reply to the discussion: I'm white. Do you ever just get sick of white people? [View all]Sympthsical
(11,244 posts)And I'm honestly not interested in rehashing it just because someone dressed up the impulse in a different ideological shroud.
The original sin all must forever atone for and repeatedly say prayers that they might be forgiven for being inherently awful and flawed people who fall short of God. It's self-flagellation disguised in nobility. If you're truly repentant, you'll join.
Super hard pass.
I'm a gay man who got the fuck out of Catholicism as rapidly as possible. Why would I sign up for more of the corrosive and toxic attitudes just because people decided to start applying them to a temporal issue? I get people need religion in their life and will often permutate those impulses into secular ideology. But I don't need it. I reject it.
It's possible to call out bad behavior and bad attitudes. "Racism sucks, and people who are racist are assholes." Simple. But "White people are just the worst, am I right?" is just seeking approval and applause to show that I, too, am a member of the Church of Perpetual Sin. Say five Hail Marys and get four back pats.
It doesn't solve anything, it's divisive, and it only serves to relieve the person saying their secular prayers of whatever issues they're dealing with and how it makes them feel. It also doesn't accomplish anything. It's not an active impulse. It's a passive one. "I said the words, so that's that solved."
Again. Repurposed Catholicism.
