(69,850 posts)What I'm saying is that this situation is actually new and different from recent U.S. history.
Speaking up about this wave of white supremacist tribalism sweeping the nation can look like self-flagellation, white guilt, magical thinking, lazy stereotyping, etc. There are certainly plenty of problematic and wrong headed tropes and myths that people will mix into their efforts to point out this huge problem.
We still have to do it. I've never seen such open, systemic meanness and ugliness in this country. The laws Republicans are passing would have shocked the right wingers I grew up with in rural Ohio. It's not shocking their children and grandchildren and that's a problem. They're rushing to vote for literal Nazis and the reason is white tribalism.
