Have you explored with said spouse the possibility of getting a different stone? I'm not nuts about diamonds and on the few occasions I want bling, I wear different stones that might or might not be set with diamond.

Wouldn't surprise me if half the diamonds De Beers called "blood diamonds" were synthetic.
