Slide, click, slude. Under a second.
No need to have one in the tube, even if one just must have a handgun.
Extending the point a bit, he had a safe. In the event of a need to protect the family (supposedly) it would take MUCH longer to get it out of the safe than to load the chamber. So, why did the gun have one in the tube if he's such a responsible gun owner?
