7. You rarely hear anything positive about Mexico and Mexicans, at least in the American media.

Partly that's because "bad news sells", so poverty, illegal immigration and drug violence grab all the headlines. It's just easy to overlook that there is a wonderful people living normal lives that aren't portrayed in the headlines that is overlooked by the constant depiction of Mexico as one big set of problems.

I know the first time I went to Mexico City I was expecting something along the lines of "Mexico=problems and poverty" because that is all I had ever heard about. I was very pleasantly surprised by the level of history and culture and how "American" (in Spanish, of course) people are there.
