why this is a surprise. It's right there in black and white when you sign up for medicaid. If you are on SS and go on medicaid and go in to a facility, they take most of your SS and leave you with a monthly allowance. That is also crystal clear when you sign up. Property, Bank accounts, stocks, cars, planes whatever property and any whole life insurance policies in the name of the person receiving medicaid benefits can be taken after death by the state to re-reimburse for what they spent on care. This is why it's best to get it all sorted out BEFORE entering a facility and death
