In reply to the discussion: Obama's re-election causing mental disorders [View all]freshwest
(53,661 posts)87. We were warned. Then the big boogeyman was to get our minds off of it, thanks to the Koches.
"The really dangerous American fascist... is the man who wants to do in the United States in an American way what Hitler did in Germany in a Prussian way. The American fascist would prefer not to use violence.
His method is to poison the channels of public information. With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth to the public but how best to use the news to deceive the public into giving the fascist and his group more money or more power...
They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise, but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest.
Their final objective, toward which all their deceit is directed, is to capture political power so that, using the power of the state and the power of the market simultaneously, they may keep the common man in eternal subjection."
~ U.S. Vice President Henry A. Wallace, quoted in the New York Times, April 9, 1944
This rheotric was so threatening to the 1% that they had to push terror in the minds of the American people through the John Birch Society funded by the Koches and they have never stopped with their long term plan. They are long term planners who learned at the feet of Stalin, literally.
Whilst the American people were busy bunkering down from the Red Menace, promoting by the same ones who made the most money in WW2, and refused to let us go back to a peacetime economy as much as possible, these essentials were forgotten. Eisenhower taxed the rich at 90% to build the country up, and frankly, to punish them for war profiteering in WW2, And they did not go hungry or lose anything by that tax rate. Their power is still very great and they are ruthless.
When some complain about spineless people in D.C., they have not faced the beast in the face and tried to negotiate with those who will lose nothing by the downfall of the entire government, Constitution and all. It's a dangerous game. That was how TARP I happened; that is how TARP II happened. It was not love of the rich or being lapdogs. It was intended to collapse the government and starve millions of people.
I suggest that none of these entities be allowed any tax breaks except for their direct funding to the US Treasury to educate, house and otherwise take care of their future workforce. That will require a sustained Democratic majority nationally, as we had in the past. Many don't remember the power of that era.
It was the one that made Nixon resign, that sent crooks to prison in his administration, and the Reagan administration. They just keep on marching along, they have nothing to lose but the people of the USA have everything to lose.
Thank goodness for this partial sweep this month. It needs to be sustained. They will continue.
