(31,706 posts)You are right...a smart and innovative businessperson knows the downsides of the market as well as the up. The thing is...and was mentioned many times during the campaign, Willard didn't build businesses, he took them apart. You don't need people skills to do that...all that matters is self interest.
Over the years of making money Willard surely believed his own press clippings of being a "successful businessman" strictly based on the money he made, not the jobs he created (which he didn't) or the benefits his wealth had given to others. You could see how out of touch he was with some of the most common things...having photo ops done of him pretending to do laundry or collect cans...when it was obvious he was uncomfortable lowering himself and look awkward. Just as it cost Poppy boooosh in '92, Willard's largess (epitomized by the 47% remark) cost him. He wasn't "one of us"...especially in comparison with President Obama.
I work in an industry that saw many "Romneys" like you describe...and guess what it's done...destroyed a once vibrant industry. The "captains of industry" put greed ahead of the product and saw it loose popularity, marketshare and revenues. And we were going to let these cads determine our destiny. Thank goodness for the sanity of the majority of the American people!
Cheers...
