(318 posts)My sister-in-law is devoted to Neil Bourtz. Listens to him everyday. Told me to check out his website so that I, too, can know the truth. Consequently, I suppose, she believes that Sharia Law is going to become the law of the land in the US. She's not alone as evidenced by the Oklahoma state legislature passing a law that said, basically, that Sharia Law would never supplant American law in Oklahoma.
Now, I ask you, where to begin to refute that? Must we go back to the Magna Carta, trace this line of thinking through the Enlightenment, to John Locke, to Thomas Jefferson in order to explain that there's really no way in hell that the US will adopt Sharia Law? Or do we explain the three branches of government like a high school civics teacher might?
I mean, where do you start?
I try to be nice -- or I used to. I'm now seriously considering just sayin' to these people the kindest remark I can think of, which would be, "I'm so sorry. You have been egregiously ill-informed. Check back with me when you come back to earth."
