and at the time of countless demonstrations in the 60's, I asked a command cop on the DPD about that. He was very smart, articulate, and knowledgeable, not your average police officer! He told me that there was CS tear gas, and CN tear gas.......I cannot remember which gas was which, but he said the one gas that was outlawed would cause immediate incapacitation with severe medical issues, vomiting, etc.
He told me that one, and I can't recall which one it was, was outlawed and was definitely not being used by police departments across the nation.

Maybe some one out there knows something about this....????????????
