I really hadn't thought about it until I read your post, but reading it and some of the other posts on this thread, it is apparent that the gun people, republicans, et al have stoked up a ridiculous amount of fear in this country and now it is to the point where they citizens killing citizens out of undue fear.
Not that this is entirely new. I remember a study from 20 years ago in my television market research days that showed that republicans were prone to "scary world theory." This was created by those police shows that are no longer so popular.
I think we need a national conversation on this. Something has to be done.
