This is the compromise: taxes remain at current levels for households under $250,000, and individuals under $200,000.
That's the compromise position.
Boehner can eat a top tax rate return to fiscally responsible levels, or he can eat a tax rate return to fiscally responsible levels for everyone. Those are his options.
Obama should let the tax rates return to fiscally responsible levels, then put it on the House to pass a temporary cut for income under the threshold. Finis. No other negotiation is necessary.
