(13,418 posts)chain...the biggest grocer in Europe. Last I heard was that the 2 brothers were in a big tiff and not talking to each other....who knows? I was told that TJ's was placed into a Trust so it couldn't be screwed with. But I don't know for sure.
I can't afford to drive 65 miles round trip to buy expensive stuff at TJ's. And their pizzas are not as good as Aldi's. I've tried a number of them.
I've never had a pizza as good as the ones from Aldi's. Why? The crust is different due to the wheat that is grown in Europe...entirely different from the crap wheat we grow here. My stomach can't handle the wheat grown here. I call it 'Wonder Bread' wheat.
As for the local pizza dude, I no longer have the pleasure of living in San Fran or other foodie cities. I'm stuck in Ohio where Applebee's is considered Haute Cuisine. I'm not kidding. I never go out to eat. It's all chains or disgusting Mexican and Chinese foods which is nothing like REAL Mexican or Real Chinese food. No dim sum on the weekends. Just Moo goo gai pan...which doesn't even exist in China. It's a made-up American dish. That's what is here.
It's so funny, people will tell me to go to a great place to eat and it's just shit. If one has been out of the Heartland, and returns, there are few places to eat. Honestly, the 99 cent bean burrito at Taco Bell is better than what I get at a Mexican restaurant here. I even went to an expensive place.....$9.00 burrito. AWFUL.
I never shop at Walmart....I can't give up my Aldi's, too. I hate Kroger's. And I hate Meijer's. I only go there for something that is on sale. That's all there is. No local butchers anymore. Farmer's market in the summer. That's it. I get all my salads at the local hospital which has a fabulous and cheap cafeteria. It's the best restaurant outside of San Fran.
I now cook...I have to if I want something good to eat.
Hell, if prices keep going up, I'll have to give up eating altogether.
