7. Putin is getting help from the ultra-wealthy who want Republicans in power.

The very wealthy want no taxes and no government regulation, brought to them by Republicans. They know that most Americans wouldn't agree with this on the merits. So they use emotionally laden issues to whip up voters' fears and resentments.

Trump read a script that was handed to him. Putin's team wrote the script, but the Russians have a lot of help inside our country.
