And Welcome to DU and being a contributor after less than 20 posts too!

Me, I'm the middle son of some very progressive parents. My Mom, an Irish-Catholic and my Dad, a French born Holocaust refugee who, back in the mid-1960s, were both card carrying members of the of the NAACP and the Urban League.

For those reading this who don't fully remember the history of discrimination in this country, before the election of President John F. Kennedy in 1960, the idea of an Irish Catholic President was just crazy. Also, the Holocaust and it's effect on it's survivors was something that nobody, not even Jews, talked about until about the late-1970s when the Mini-series "Holocaust" finally broke the silence.
