I grew up in Mi'ssippi - and the obsession Southern right-wingers have with the Confederacy and the Antebellum South cannot be overstated.

They seem convinced that they'd all live like Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler "but for them damn Yankees and their n***er collaborators."

The fact that most white people lived in near-medieval conditions in the 1850s South seems to escape them.

But a lot of their hatred toward black people stems from that very belief - that it was collaboration from freed/runaway slaves that gave the "Nawth" the ground intelligence and the edge they needed to win.

(if true, then good on them! they were defending the nation after all)

It's one delusion on top another with these people.
