The things he is best at is scrambling. So when things broke down, he tends to go back to what he did best.
Let's remember a few things:
No offseason. Couldn't meet with Broncos coaches until after the lockout. His offseason consisted more of conditioning. While I know he worked with some people in the offseason, it came nothing close to what he would have received from Broncos coaching staff. And they still would have worked with him like a back up.
2nd...yes he has some problems reading defenses. That's something that happens to a lot of young QB's. But as far as his ability to throw...uh...he broke a bunch of SEC passing records. When you hear anybody else say he can't pass, they're coming up with reasons to bolster their beliefs because they simply don't like him. If you hear yourself saying it, you should promptly smash yourself repeatedly in the head with a hammer...because now you know and you'd actually just be using it to bolster YOUR case against him.
3rd...when he was given the reins, it was obvious that the upper office (Elway mostly) wanted the kid to fail. If he had failed, Elway would have made a strong move to Andrew Luck.
Does he have issues? Yes. He wants to run TOO much. There are many times, like the Pats game, where it appears he psyches himself out about throwing. Like perhaps he's been listening to the naysayers. He'll grip the ball. Refuse to trust timing with his receivers and just try to run. He has to get over that tendency. But take a look at how he throws in the 4th quarter with the game on the line. He has RIDICULOUS numbers in the 4th qtr. Scary numbers.
And when the coaches get their heads out of their butts, perhaps they'll call more passing plays. They need to approach him like Rothliasdfabasdger. They almost never call screens for him. That needs to be a part of the offense...stat.
All this stuff you're going over...already been through this in my own head over the past 22 months. 22 months ago, I was a Tebow Hater like you. I've just gotten to watch him and his work ethic. Give me 52 more Broncos with his heart, dedication and work ethic.
But I want to end this with good news. I've figured out what your problem is. You said:
"I saw a Youtube mash-up of ESPN mentioning his name 160 times in 1 hour! Gimme a break...do you think Cam Newton has gotten that kind of media attention? "
It actually appears that your problem is with the media. Not Tebow. Perhaps if you direct your hostilities at them for their obvious slight towards you, you'll find your criticism to be more efficient and effective.
