(62,233 posts)keep his mouth shut on the subject of politics.
My family includes both liberals and RWers including RWNJs, but most of us have learned to steer clear of the subject of politics when we get together.
The worst offender is someone who went from liberal to RWNJ, like your relative. From someone who mocked Rush Limbaugh - and was embarrassed that her current, third husband listened to him - to someone who watches and listens to only RW media, and owns and sometimes wears a MAGA hat.
Converts can be the most annoying proselytizers. They think that if they were converted, everyone holding their former beliefs can and should be.
She complained to me once that her Democratic sister-in-law minded being called a commie.
I laughed at her.
She's been so brainwashed by RW propaganda that she thinks she can enlighten everyone else about politics, and it infuriates her that she hasn't been able to convince me (a poli sci major with debate experience) of the alleged error of my ways.
I used to send her links to articles refuting what she said if she emailed me some inane RW argument, but she told me proudly that she never read them. So I stopped replying to her emails, and she stopped sending them. She'll still bring up politics occasionally if we're talking, but I just laugh, and if that makes her hang up or storm away, that's just fine.
