My email to my Congressperson against SOPA [View all]

========================================
Please vote against SOPA.

The problem with US copyright law is that it's too harsh. SOPA would make it harsher.

The case of Richard O'Dwyer shows that US copyright law is already too harsh: "A 23-year-old British college student who operated a popular website that linked to other sites that offered pirated videos is to be extradited to the U.S. where he faces a possible 10-year prison sentence for copyright violations."

I am concerned about SOPA's "H.R.3261 SEC. 104. IMMUNITY FOR TAKING VOLUNTARY ACTION AGAINST SITES DEDICATED TO THEFT OF U.S. PROPERTY" which destroys Net Neutrality by letting ISPs decide on their own to block websites.

I am also concerned about SOPA's "H.R.3261 SEC. 201. STREAMING OF COPYRIGHTED WORKS IN VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL LAW" which would put more people in prison for internet-streaming.

Copyright violations should be a civil matter, not a criminal matter.

I hope you will vote against SOPA.
