36. I remember the shock of my first trip to New Jersey after being raised in the deep south

I thought/assumed/hoped that white racism wouldn't be as prevalent. What I found were white people who were racist against everyone but their specific white ethnic group. I found Poles who hated Italians vice versa. Of course they didn't like black or brown people either.
