(71,499 posts)I was born with it. I had open heart surgery. Thank God I live in Ohio...we have Cleveland Clinic, UH, and Metro. My surgery was done at UH. I feel great and may come off the eliquis any day now. My surgeon says I don't need it but he has to consult with the other doctors. I have so many doctors. I never even took pills until July of 22 when I had COVID-19... which probably helped destroy my valve. By January I could not walk across the room.
Today, I feel great. I swim most days and am following a WW diet...25 lbs and I reach my goal. I want to go into my later years as healthy as possible. Anyway, I consider myself very fortunate. Considering that this is not that unusual. I think people should be tested once they reach their 50s. Had this been caught sooner, I would not have had the heart damage which I am told is healing.
