(217,051 posts)It's a little embarrassing, but I have an excuse. I'm not all that chatty, though I do try to reply to fellow DUers, but I have been here since DU.1 and I have served as a DU.2 mod, a host when we first moved to DU.3 and I've volunteered for MIRT when I was eligible since 2013 - and that was responsible for at least half of my posts.
And I can well remember when I first joined and newyawker99 posted her popular Milestones threads. It was a big thrill back then just to be noticed. I still remember when I made 1000! She was my very first friend on DU, welcomed me on my very first post and likely one of the reasons I stayed. And then there was God_bush_n_cheney, also known as Andy Stephenson, who was very kind to me - and everyone else too. I'm so glad that EarlG has continued the Milestones tradition.
I am very grateful to have found a home on DU. It was 9/11 that "woke" me up. I'm in New York and I had a dentist's appointment that day. There was chaos in the office, phones ringing, and my dentist had the TV on CNN so I sat there and watched that second plane hitting the WTC over and over, By the time I walked out into the September sun, I was scared witless, thinking that the world was about to end. I'd always voted, mostly for Democrats (Jimmy Carter!), but I realized that I needed to start paying more attention to what was going on in this country and the world.
So I started reading and asking questions and thanks to a friend (who is still here) I found DU in early 2003. I have learned so much here, something new everyday, so I volunteered as a mod, then a host and now for MIRT to give a little back for all I've learned here.
Plus, I started posting the videos of what I watch, mostly MSNBC, since I know that not everyone stays up as late as I do - or may not have cable, or even TV. It's another way I can give back.
And the bonus has been the wonderful kindred spirits I've met from everywhere - I have made friends here, so many are on this thread. So I just want to thank everyone for the kind words and your friendship. I found a home on DU. Thank you.
