(26,298 posts)arm of Hamas. Israel did not say that Hamas or IJ targeted the hospital. They said that IJ launched an explosive toward Israel and it failed, came crashing down. Israel also pointed out that this kind of failure is common in Palestinian weaponry. So Israel says it was an accidental "friendly fire" hit by IJ.
Personally, I have no problem believing that Hamas or IJ could have intentionally targeted their own people. They hide out among them and store explosives in schools and mosques, so they have no regard for their own people. They want power at any cost. They do not have military weapons equal to Israel's or other nations, so they leverage public opinion.
The damage at the hospital caused the cancellation of a conference between the Palestinian government, Arab Nations, and Biden. The goals of the conference were to improve conditions for Palestinians, negotiate hostage release, and diminish casualties. That would weaken the power and leverage of Hamas in Palestine. So the cancellation of the conference was a win for Hamas. The Hamas claims about the hospital made that win possible.
The Hamas claim that Israel bombed the hospital also increased anger and demonstrations around the world. Another win for Hamas.
It is a moral principal to speak out on behalf of Palestinian civilians. But defending Hamas terrorists is another story.
