For you whippersnappers: Young ladies of breeding and refinement used to attend college primarily to find rich husbands. Think of women like Laura Bush and Ann Romney, who "married well." (In reality Laura and Ann married their men's checkbooks; if Shrub and Mitt weren't old money they couldn't have gotten laid with $100 bills pinned to their field jackets.)
A place with months of cold weather and nothing to do sounds perfect for courting; inventive, hormone-drenched youngsters can always find something to do.
