To stir up hatred and animosity toward the US internationally.
And to divide the US internally.
Make it harder for Ukraine to get funds.

Also, when Putin faces war crimes accusations he can also point to the US and Israel now.

I have to give the devil his due. Putin engineered all of this to perfection.
