8. If you absolutely must have white balloon bread

that makes your teeth squeak, Bimbo bread is great stuff.

It's made by a Mexican company, Grupo Bimbo, that also owns Sara Lee and Entemann's, the latter making dense cake donuts that will make you wonder what you ever saw in those bland Hostess things.

The irony here is that Grupo Bimbo has been trying to buy Hostess for years and has been rebuffed. Now that the company is picked clean of all but its name and recipes and the CEO has looted the last few scraps, they might be able to do it if they're willing to take on that much debt.

All the panicky people out there needn't worry too much, a national brand like Hostess is likely not going away for long. If the company manages to stay out of the greedy hands of bankers and hedge funds and big holding companies, it will probably outlive us all.
