I grew up in southwestern Pa and I can't remember having the first day of deer season with no school, but that was over fifty years ago. I now live in West Virginia . Deer season here starts the Monday before Thanksgiving so they close school for the entire week. It's not for the kids or the teachers but rather the bus drivers and custodial employees of the schools.
