The "bringing down the mafia" thing was something my dog could have done after Joe Pistone's infiltration of the Bonannos.
It would have taken a legendary screw-up to not bring down the mob with the mountain of evidence provided the prosecutors.
He got WAY too much credit for that.
And yes, bringing down the mob facilitated the rise of the Russian mob which then compromised him.
