The thing no one wants to look at square is that it is not just what Hamas did. It is that what Hamas did was greeted with adulation among adherents to the cause of Arab Palestine, rather than the revulsion and detestation such deeds, and the people who perform them, deserve. If someone felt any thrill, any rush of satisfaction, any urge to applaud, on hearing of what Hamas did, I can see no reason for concern over what might happen to such a person, should he or she be near their heroes. The Golden Rule is a harsh mistress: do unto others as you would have them do unto you is an extremely radical admonition. By the treatment inflicted on their victims, Hamas has written instructions for how they ought to be treated, has in fact disclosed how they want to be treated. I can't see any reason not to oblige them, difficult as it might be for a sane person to accommodate their desires.
