I think that long ago he started using something called a bronzer, and pleased with the look he kept on doing it— as with his hair, long past the time it started looking ridiculous.

All I know personally is that fed up with my freckles and inability to tan, I accepted a small sample tube of artificial tan from the Estee Lauder counter. It made my freckles appear almost black, because they had the most color to begin with, against a light brown “tan” on the rest of the forearm area I had tested. I didn’t think that was an improvement, so I never tried again. But at least there was no orange/bronzer effect.
