They want the finger-pointing of the OT under the guise of love in the NT. Very few of those people do the real work of withholding judgement, feeding the poor, and loving thy neighbor. Instead they do what most people have been doing with religion since time immemorial - they use it to justify whatever it is they damn well wanna do.

That is an interesting question. My thought is that their Christianity is cultural.
