In reply to the discussion: I'm not a fan of Taylor Swift's music. I mean, I just don't get it. [View all]WarGamer
(12,930 posts)44. Which part?
I'm assuming you're defending her vocal talent.
What level do you believe she's on? Streisand? Brightman? Ok... lol that's not fair.
How about Ann Wilson at TS's age?
Still not fair, I know...
Ok... I'll give you Britney Spears. Although Britney probably had a bit more ooomph... at TS's age too...
Hmmm... don't believe me

With a middling soprano range that seems more secure in its middle and lower echelons, Tay-Tays singing voice is not the most technically adept in the pop world. But that doesnt mean she isnt doing interesting things with it
Shes a country singer at heart
Country singers are in love with the sound of their own voices. Thats not to say that theyre self-obsessed, but something about the personal narrative in country music turns its most successful acts into storytellers as well as singers - and clarity of vocal expression is how you communicate those stories. Just think of Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette - fine singers on a technical level, but its the stories we remember. A young Taylor Swift, trying to break through the Nashville music scene just as Dolly and Tammy did in their day, wouldve lapped those stories up and sought to tell her own.
Like I said... a tremendous artist and generational talent... and not a great singer.

Her music is wholesome. Parents would rather have their kids listen to Taylor than hip-hop

She's a corporate brand and that's fine for what it is. I DO appreciate what she's doing politically.

She does indeed write her own music. She's an excellent storyteller, emotional and nuanced.

To be honest, I don't really like Taylor Swift's music or most modern music in general as someone who plays piano/synth

You do not have to be a fan of Taylor Swift's music to admire and appreciate her as a good person
