Comer and Jordan surely knew Smirnov was dirty and it seems they may have known he was a key conduit as part of the Russian anti-Biden campaign.

So, as soon as they heard of his arrest, ... bang, close up the House. They may have even gotten wind of it while Smirnov's plane was in the air coming from overseas to Las Vegas.
