In reply to the discussion: Pres. Biden needs to address grocery prices and rent [View all]Vinca
(50,798 posts)The wealthy city people headed for rural areas and put cash on the barrelhead, full price plus offers down. The average residents can't compete with that, but how do you stop it? It's a free country and you can't stop people who have money from spending it. Prices are starting to go back down a little, but it takes time for it to happen. As for groceries, there seems to be an ebb and flow of prices that don't seem to be connected so much to the economy as to environmental conditions. For example, last year's apple crop where I live was decimated because of frigid weather conditions so the price of the surviving apples went up. Florida citrus seems to be up and down depending on the weather and DeSantis giving the orchard employees the bum's rush out of the state because they're "the other." Eggs went up because of avian flu, then went down. Now they're up again because the avian flu is back. I honestly don't know what Joe Biden can do given how screwed up the climate is and how impossible to work with the Congress is.
