Garland's use of special counsels is unprecedented. There is no rule, no law that prohibits DOJ from investigating politicians or private citizens who declare they are running for public office.

Garland was not required to appoint Hur or Smith.

Hunter Biden is a private citizen and yet Garland appointed a special counsel. Why did Weiss have the authority to indict Smirnov? Weiss was given no jurisdiction to investigate Smirnov.

Merrick Garland appears to appoint special counsels so that he can play Julius Caesar.
