But they aren’t likely investigating Trump specifically, but Axos bank, as it would be the bank, not Trump, who would be laundering money.

So no Special Prosecutor would be justified to investigate the bank.

Remember, the “Special” in special prosecutor does not mean faster, more aggressive or more powerful.

Also remember that DOJ does not announce or comment on ongoing investigations.

Now, if in the course of their investigation of Axos bank, evidence was uncovered that Trump engaged in fraud to obtain the loans (as he did in the NY case), then I would expect Garland to appoint a SC.
