There was nothing illegal in paying Stormy Daniels to stay quiet. My understanding is that the charge is that, in making these payments, he falsified business records. To the extent that falsifying the records resulted in campaign finance violation which in turn could be construed as a kind of election interference, one could make a connection, but election interference per se is not what he is being charged with or tried for in this case.
