10. My dear 85 year old (at the time) husband recovered very well from hip surgery after his fall.

It hasn’t bothered him at all since he healed. Since it was during the pandemic I chose to skip rehab and instead have the physical and occupational therapists come to our home masked. For the first month I rented a hospital bed so it was easier for him to get in and out of it and per the medical supply, for hip and back surgery it was best to have a very firm mattress. After the first week he really wanted to try sleeping in our bed which is a firm mattress but not as firm as the hospital bed. He tried it and only lasted 5-10 minutes before the pain made him return to the hospital bed. Then after 3 or so weeks he tried again and made it all night comfortably. I also got a shower chair so he didn’t have to stand along with a getting a hand held shower adapter. He did have a lot of pain and couldn’t take opiates as they make him very wacky.

If it weren’t for his short term memory problems and it was today with Covid vaccines, I’d probably go with rehab for a couple of weeks and evaluate afterwards if a hospital bed would help him.

Sending good vibes.
